Тао restaurant is a unique project uniting two great philosophies – Chinese and Japanese. The concept of the restaurant is enclosed in the restaurant name: the word “tao” when translated from Chinese means path. With this naming the restaurateurs wanted to underline the fact that only after covering the path of gastronomic pleasure and exquisite comfort you will be able to experience the whole charm of Chinese and Japanese cuisines.
The outstanding feature of the restaurant is the fact that in one kitchen two chefs work: a master of Chinese culinary directly from China and maitre of sushi from Japan. Chinese people treat both philosophy and culinary very seriously. And for this very reason cooks usually used to have the same status as authorities did. Many thinkers including Confucius himself compared a well-cooked dish with well-managed government.
And cooks were considered worthy of emulation since the governor should feel his people well. And this is the crossroad uniting philosophy with culinary. And for better understanding of the essence let’s go through the cuisine of this wonderful restaurant. The menu as mentioned above is divided into two parts – Chinese and Japanese. However the Chinese offers are more. Everyone knows that at the beginning of farming agriculture the basic diet of Chinese people was and is grain crops, and meat is used in smaller amounts. But right in Tao restaurant you are treated to exotic meat of turtle, rabbit, duck made in Beijing way, frog, all kinds of seafood and snakes served in a pan under which fire is burning. Expectedly, the number of dishes with fire is rather big.
The most demanded and expensive dish of the restaurant is “Imperial soup” which consists of royal shrimps, calamari, octopus, salmon, starlet and turtle. And it is served on fire for it to remain hot. Unique combinations of all kinds of spices with seemingly incompatible ingredients will pleasantly amaze gourmets. Such an example can be “Tao” salad or “Tao” hot dish made of veal with fried pineapple. Salads made of soya and vegetables, white and black Chinese mushrooms, Chinese red cabbage or sesame and veal enjoy big demand not only among Chinese people living in Yerevan but also locals. If we start telling about sushis and rolls and Japanese dishes offered in the second part of the menu of Tao restaurant in general then it is rather difficult to cut the description short. All we can say is that such high-quality allsorts of sushi and rolls can be found nowhere else in Yerevan.
Vodka made of ginseng needs special description which is filled in a transparent jar and is placed in the center of the hall. This drink consists of asteroid, sea horse and many other seafood. It is served in small Chinese shots. They say that 150 gr of this drink at dinner has a favourable impact on blood circulation and stability of blood pressure. Despite its 50 and more degrees it is so soft that the stated scale is not felt at all. The alternative from Japanese side is of course sake. Among the drinks offered in Tao Chinese sweet plum wine outstands.
To the above-mentioned professional service should be added with the help of which you will reveal the unknown. The restaurant is a marvelous example of determination, professionalism and quality and there is nothing to complain about if they all exist.
