Have you ever appeared in the past going back for about 100 years? Maybe only in dreams and fantasies, right? Kapela restaurant which is located on a small street called Leo seems to be a piece of this past and this past is exceptionally Armenian. When you appear there for the first time you have such a feeling that you have moved to an Armenian house of the 19th or 20th centuries. Even the smallest details of daily life and lifestyle of the old times seem to have been recreated here.
The heavy door discovers a small treasury which takes quite a long time to be found and after finding-explored thoroughly. The black and red bare tufa immediately makes you get the offered format. Meanwhile meridian is clearly traced which is in the middle of the hall dividing it into two surfaces. These surfaces are of different style and different times of belonging. The first part presents typical Armenian life with all its conditions. In the premises there are many household appliances: rare spinning wheel envisaged for churning, old kettles, wine hollow-wares. Of course the Armenian house of the 19th century is difficult to imagine without music and poetry and “qamancha” hanging over the wall is the vivid confirmation of this and reference to Sayat-Nova. There is uva under the ceiling and you have such a feeling that you are sitting in an open-air area and you can stretch out to the vine and get grapes.
In the second part of the hall the designers have reproduced the exterior of Charent’s house. You can appreciate how much they succeeded when you visit this wonderful restaurant but in this part there is some kind of poetry flying and Kapela restaurant is all in all a very flamboyant place which offers something new during every visit to the restaurant.
One of the main merits of Kapela is the hall which seems to be specially concealed from visitors but those who have had the luck to be there will certainly remember the pleasant moments passed in a cosy atmosphere for a very long time. In Kapela every detail is thoroughly planned out but the given hall is beyond man’s fantasy and boundlessness of mind.
Refresh the memories about your father’s house, remember all the details or simply visit Kapela and re-discover your childhood here. Familiar furniture with library, curtained windows, interior in the style of "made in USSR", even the table setting for dinner, even forks, plates and cups are all from USSR and many families have had such utensil. So if you want to go back to your childhood then do it with the help of Kapela.
However it is not all about Kapela. Its holy of holies is its cuisine which is exceptionally ethnic. You can find everything here from the national cuisine even the dishes which seemed to be lost in the history. People visit Kapela specially for tasting old Armenian dishes as a whole range of dishes is offered here which are known phonetically but have never been tasted. Kapela is really a piece from the past with which you never want to part in the present.
